Mr. Saravanan S. served as Assistant Professor at Amrita Center for Computational Engineering and Networking (CEN), Coimbatore Campus. He completed his M. S. by research from CEN, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. His dissertation is titled Pattern based English to Tamil Machine Translation. He was also involved in many NLP oriented funded projects in the department. Mr. Sarvanan was a student of high caliber. What makes him distinct from others is his knowledge on mathematical modeling. He used this skill in modeling language too. He successfully mapped English structural patterns with Tamil structural patterns and successfully built a pattern based English to Tamil machine translation. His contribution to Tamil from computational point of view is praise worthy. His NLP service to Tamil language will be written on the history of Tamil NLP. Last few years he was doing PhD on a inter-university (Amrita and an Deakin University, Australia) fellowship. Recently he visited Australia for this purpose. He was the darling of CEN and he was adjudged as a remarkable scholar. Unfortunately he left us recently to live in the aboard of GOD. He is sending his blessing to the young researchers from there. We are proud of announcing an award for the winners of "Shared Task on Detecting Paraphrase in Indian Languages (DPIL)" as "Sarwan Award" as a tribute to his contribution to Computational linguistics at CEN, Amrita University, Coimbatore.
